658-ROUTINES IN ILLNESS AND PREOCCUPATION

ROUTINES IN ILLNESS AND PREOCCUPATION

Rang-o-Noor (BY SA'DI)

(Shumara: 658)

Allah be thanked many times that unholy competition of sketches has been stopped. Whoever worked sincerely in this regard may be blessed by Allah! Only Allah knows who made efforts and with what intentions and whose labour was liked by Allah that He sent down His assistance. It was mere Allah's grace and help that so horrible punishment was removed. May Allah inflict horrible punishment on those who pronounced to conduct that unholy competition!
I Remember My Promise: I had promised before 'Eid to explain the Sufficing Deeds i.e. the routines if observed in the morning and evening suffice for man's needs in this world and the Hereafter. Today I wanted to write down those routines in detail giving references but could not write in the present state so I am going to write those deeds in brief. Those who are in the habit of studying must be knowing their detail but detail for those who do not know will be given next but two points before routines:
(1) Routines about Allah's Zikr and supplications must be observed because negligence in them is not a good thing nor a good habit. Allah's zikr and supplications are the best use of our time. Our Hereafter is populated and the world is made easy. You can try yourselves. For example, if you have two hours' routines in the morning, people will think, "What else can this man do? Two hours' routines in the morning and two hours' in the evening and night, five obligatory Salaat, Tahajjud, Ishraq and Chaasht, two or three times mealing, six or seven hours' rest. Then what time for the business of life?" But the wonder is that the man who observes these and more routines is blessed with so much amplitude in his time that he does much more work than other people. Allah blesses him with so great weight, position and value that even the biggest task becomes easy for him. You can take the example of a clerk and Prime Minister. How great difference is there in their signatures! Big tasks are done with Prime Minister's signatures whereas the clerk also spends that amount of time. So if Allah has granted you with the capacity for Zikr, inclination for supplications and the capacity for Durood, protect your routines and never forego them except hard excuse. I talked about Hazrat Farid-ud-Din Mas'ood Ganj Shakr's book "Raahat-ul-Quloob" in the last column. In his book, he has stressed on observing routines and deeds at two or three points. Note a few extracts.
He says: (1) If the Sufis become negligent of Allah's Zikr, they say that they are dead because if they were alive, Allah's Zikr would not have severed from them. There was a saint in Baghdad whose routine was to invoke Allah's Zikr for 1000 times. One day, there was a break. The voice from the hidden came, "Such and such has not remained alive." Hearing the voice, people gathered at his door but he was alive. People were wondered and began to apologise him that they had made a mistake or developed a misgiving. He smiled and said, "You are right. Deem it as you have heard in the voice. I had break in routine. The pronouncement came that I have died." (Raahat-ul-Quloob)
(2) Sometimes man falls so ill that he cannot fulfil the routines. Or he becomes so busy that life begins to rotate in a narrow circle and he does not find chance for routines. Then man should not become completely empty-handed rather take up the routines about which the Holy Prophet ﷺ says that these deeds suffice man i.e. man remains in Allah's mercy, protection and shelter due to the blessings of those deeds and he remains safe from negligence and big disasters. If we observe these few minutes' routines in illness, the situation becomes clear very soon and we are granted with the capacity for Allah's Zikr and routines for hours.
Sufficing Deeds: When does it dawn and dusk? The learned people have many sayings. The authentic point of faith is: Morning starts with true morning i.e. the deeds and supplications for which the Holy Prophetﷺ has ordered to do can be done with the advent of true morning. Evening starts with sunset i.e. when the sun sets and the time for breaking the fast and Maghrib Salaat starts. Now, the deeds and supplications can be observed for which the Holy Prophet ﷺ has ordered as to observe in the evening. Obligatory Salaats are to be established at any cost however women are exempted during fixed days. The Sufficing Deeds in the morning and evening after Salaat are:
(1) Reciting Surah Akhlas, Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nass thrice each in the morning and evening. (2) Syed-ul-Istighfar
(3) The following supplication three times each.
(4) The following supplication for seven times. (verse)
(5) The following supplication reported by Hazrat Abu Darda once:
(6) Surah Faatihah and then first verse of Surah Al-Baqarah to المفلحون. Aayat-ul-Kursiy and the verses following it to خالدون and last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah from اٰمن الرسول to the end.
Final Request: I have been inclined to the study of supplications since long. Whenever I read a book, I specially attended to supplications in it. Recently when I read "Raahat-ul-Quloob" I underlined many supplications and routines and included a supplication in my routine so much the same was the condition while reading and teaching Al-Bukhaari i.e. Jihaad and supplications. Hence, I have selected the six Sufficing Deeds on the basis of my long effort and experience. The learned people will certainly have excessive knowledge with them. A few of them will also like to give suggestions. They are requested to act according to their knowledge. I have prescribed this syllabus for the people like me. My intuition is that if these deeds are done in the morning and evening, a peace of heart is felt. I have said, "These six deeds are in case of disease when it weakens man much or engagement encircles him. Normally, the practice of the believers is to invoke Zikr, supplicate and observe routines abundantly.
